Mindful of the shorter daylight hours 8 of us met in Broadford at 8 am, to car share to Kilmarie for the start of our walk.
A beautiful dawn greeted us as we strode out to Camusunary Bay: sun, clear skies and no wind. From the bay we headed up river, which thankfully was low, allowing us to cross in two places with no wet feet! Then on up to the bealach, this was a steep stiff climb, however we were rewarded with the breathtaking sight of the Cuillin Ridge!
Our ascent to the summit was rough, rocky and pathless but under Peter’s excellent guidance we reached the top with no problems.
Although Sgurr na Stri is diminutive in its size compared to a Munro it has to be up amongst Scotland’s finest viewpoints! From our lofty position we looked down on beautiful Loch Coruisk, the heart of this place, nestled in the Cuillins embrace, a truly awe inspiring sight, you couldn’t get closer to heaven!!
We enjoyed our lunch soaking up the beauty around us. As we had made good time we decided to go on to the second cairn (20 minutes detour) where the seaward vista took in the Islands of Rum, Eigg and Canna. Landward afforded us a spectacular view of Camusunary Bay.
Reluctantly we descended back down to the Bealach, spotting red deer on the way and were also lucky to sight a Golden Eagle, (Sarah’s first ever sighting, she was very excited!)
A long, tiring but straightforward walk back to the cars completed this fantastic day.
