Report MAY 2011

Walk Report for Sunday 22nd May 2011 by Dee Taylor

 Coire Dhuirned to Bundalloch.

After a week of adverse weather conditions, late Sat evening, the decision to postpone the stated walk to the Mamore was taken in the view of safety and enjoyment. Members who had booked on, were given the alternative choice of getting together at 9am on Sunday at Dornie Hall for a local walk.

So on a wet breezy morning, 5 members set off on foot from the hall to take the 12 mile circular walk of Coire Dhuirned to Bundalloch. Dornie.

A pleasant stroll up Carr Brae first passing the viewpoint overlooking Eilean Donan Castle and onto the starting point of the hill track following the tumbling An-Leth Allt to its source high into Coire Dhuinnid. Although the track was very wet and eroding in places, the walk by the river and its superb waterfalls was lovely.Quite a bit of burn hopping had to be done.
Tea break was enjoyed at an old lonely ruin in the Glen , perhaps an old shepherds cottage. This was our point of accent to the col and view point high above Camus-luinie and across to Ben Killilin hazy in cloud. The sun came out through the showers and at times hail to make this accent quite pleasant while we observed a variety of wild flowers, seeing our first spotted orchid of the summer. And a baby frog!

The decent through Glen Glennan though beautiful, was quite an ordeal with many river crossings in spate, and at one point meant a climb quite high up the river bank to get around safely. This done with care, we made our way safely home and walked from Bundalloch through the village of Dornie and a warm welcome awaited us at the Clachan Bar where refreshments and warmth were enjoyed. Despite the weather, the walk was very much enjoyed and our boots will dry out eventually. 12 miles, every season and about 7 hours.
