Report JULY 2011

Walk Report for Sunday 17th July 2011 by Dee

Ben Wyvis.

Two members only met at the meeting point at Auchtertyre for the July meet.
As cloudy wet weather was on the forecast for the East, the long road trip was decided against
and as it was fine in Shielbridge, an alternative local walk took the place of Wyvis.

The lovely 7 mile ridge walk of Biod an Fhithich (644m) ( Point of the Ravens) was chosen.
One car was left at Shiel Campsite and the other taken to the layby 1/2 mile east of Achnagart Farm. ( The Saddle Path).
A good access path climbs steadily to the Col between Meallan Odhar and Biod an Fhithich where we were rewarded with
good views of the Forcan Ridge and The Five Sisters, the drifting cloud making it very atmospheric.

Taking the path off to the West, once over the high point of 644m, a whole series of undulations stretch out in front of you.
Some rocky and steep but mostly grassy and every high point brought a new view, fromThe Cuillin to Loch Duich and the far Applecross Hills.
Although very wet underfoot, this was a very enjoyable ridge which is named A` Mhuing ( Mane of the Horse ) so named from the view of it from the road looking up.
Luckily we only had rain for the last mile as we dropped down to Shiel at the back of the campsite.
5 hours and a nice early finish.
