Walk Report for Sunday 20th February 2011 by Dee Taylor

Ben Tee (901m) 8 miles & Low level Loch Oich Circle 11 miles

6 members met at Dornie Hall at 08.00am and agreed the set walks would take place as the weather was fair.
Having taken two cars, 3 members parked at Invergarry P.O. for the onset of the Oich Circle while 3 drove to Kilfinnan to
climb Ben Tee (901m).
Conditions for Loch Oich were dry, sunny with a slight breeze. The walk took them from Invergarry to Laggan Bridge joining the Great Glen Way
on the east side of the Loch Oich with views of the ruins of Invergarry Castle and a short stretch of the dismantled railway line and onto
Bridge of Oich. They returned from here joining in part, the Great Glen Cycle Way to emerge at the Invergarry Hotel.
An interesting end to the walk for them was seeing the restoration work of the Primary School Garden with its beautiful carved wood life sized
golden eagle. A real work of art. 5 hours walking.

Ben Tee was shrouded in cloud at about 700m but the walk in was very pleasant with dry sunny conditions as we ascended the first pull
up with the sound of the Kilfinnan Waterfall on our left. It was decided not to take the path climbing alongside the falls as this is very steep
by the Falls. A long fairly easy walk across open moorland follows until the Western flank of the Ben has to be tackled, here we encountered the snow
and very strong winds at about 500m. This made for hard work but we still had time to enjoy the beautiful views of Fort Augustus, Glen Garry and the
snow covered mountain ridges of home in the West. Sadly, after battling on to the summit, the cloud mass was such that no views were had
but all was calm and very quiet so lunch was enjoyed.6 white ptarmigan were observed on the walk. The inward path was retraced for the return.
5hours 10 mins of walking.
All met back at Invergarry at 3.45pm.
