Report DEC 2010

Walk Report for Sunday 19th December 2010 by Peter Chilton

Am Bathach (798m) Cluanie

At minus eight the seal was set, Just four hardy types were all that met.
Cool would be the walk this day, Just turned nine we were on our way.

Our route advisor said,"Drifted snow, Could be a problem". and he should know.
Hence we took notice of good old Mike, And from Shiel Bridge campsite we did hike.

With Am Bathach nowhere in sight, Flank Sgurr Mhic Bharraich, we'd be alright.
Snow blanket cover all around, A mewing buzzard the only sound.

Red deer in numbers strive to eat. By the stream we find a snowy seat.
Capture scene, but camera says no, Haslet sandwich then on we go.

Drifts dictate deviate we must, Tracks in snow we see them just.
We wonder if it could be that, Those spoors belong to a Scottish Wild Cat?

With bright striped hats to warm their lugs, Two lasses look like a pair of humbugs!
Six eighty metres and just after one, Dinnertime now, the uphill bit done.

Panoramic view, snow near and far, A day to savour, how lucky we are.
My eyes drawn Westward, i can't think why, Perhaps comparing the views on SKYE.....

Two hours of daylight, best head downhill, Buzzard flying in search of a kill.
Three thirty return and in no doubt, Yet another Club Walk and great day out.
