December 2009
Walk review from Dee Taylor 13th December 2009 Aird coast
The last walk of the 2nd year and a relaxing day was chosen exploring the Aird Coast line to The Point Of Sleat. Ten members, new and old turned out on the frosty morning to travel down to Aird where we parked on the very icy parking area at the Old Church Gallery where the walk begins. The walk is a round trip of about 9km on a good farm track with stunning views to Knoydart and the coast of Mallaig and Morar. Firstly we chose to walk down to the cottages and scramble over the rocks to enjoy the elevated view point of Acairseid an Rudha. This was so enjoyable as the clarity of the day made the view of the Cuillin and the Islands stunning. First tea break of the day here.
Retracing our steps back to the first cottage, we cut off over the hill to meet the path to the shore leading upwards to the Lighthouse; again all enjoyed bird watching from here. Lastly, we took the high path from the Lighthouse and made our way down to the lovely sandy bay of Creag Mhor where we had a lovely lunch break in the sun and spent time exploring and "playtime " on the beach, even a bit of winter sun bathing done. Eventually dragging our selves away, we headed off back to the inward track, stopping off at one of the several cairns at a view point to take a final view of our beautiful surroundings.
We all met at the Ardvaasar Hotel and spent an enjoyable social time together and toasted the year out. We all agreed this was a great choice of walk on a perfect relaxing day.
