Constitution
1. Name
The Club shall be called Lochalsh Trail Club Hillwalkers, hereinafter referred to as the Club.
2. Objectives
The aim of the Club is to:
i)enable local walkers to meet and co-ordinate hill walking activities and to foster a greater appreciation of all aspects of mountain life.
ii)widen participation in hill walking through providing a friendly and welcoming club for novices to take up hill walking in the company of those with more experience.
3. Participation statement
The Club recognises that hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
4. Statement of self reliance
Club members do not provide any formal leadership or formal instruction and the Club does not take any responsibility for the safety of participants on club meets. Members are responsible for themselves and their own actions. When a club member agrees to accept responsibility for an activity, it is on the basis that he or she is only helping by sharing his or her experience. Members accompanying a more experienced member do so on the understanding that they take any advice on the basis described above.
5. Membership
Membership is open to all aged 14 years and over. The membership fee of £20 is payable annually, with the Membership year being from January to December. A pro rata fee of £10 is payable by members joining in the period of July to December. Young members (aged under 18) must submit a completed parent consent form when participating on a walk, unaccompanied by a parent or guardian.
Non members and guests may join a Club meet by prior arrangement with a Committee Member. A fee of £5(tbc) is payable in addition to any transport costs.
6. Club officials
Club affairs shall be managed by a committee of up to ten members. These are;
Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Routes Adviser, Web-site Editor and up to five General Members.
Office bearers are to be elected at each AGM.
7. Child Protection
The club acknowledges the existence of the Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003. The club adopts the Child Protection Policy of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland.
8. Club meets
Members may inform a Committee Member of their intention to attend a meet. The club will organise a bus for certain day meets. The bus will depart from and return to one central location. There shall be a fare charged for the bus, payable on the day of the meet.
Members are expected to be properly equipped for hill walking. Club officials have the authority to advise accordingly.
Animals are not permitted on any Club meet.
9. Finance
The Club is a non profit making organisation. In the event of dissolution of the club, all net assets (if any) are to be donated to a mountaineering-related charitable organisation, chosen at the discretion of the Club’s final committee.
Lochalsh Trail Club Hillwalkers hereby adopts this constitution.
